Colchester United’s interim manager has pulled a heartfelt reactions to victory over Swindon Town…

Colchester United’s interim manager, Matty Etherington, expressed his admiration for the team’s performance in their 3-1 victory over Swindon Town, marking their third consecutive league win.

The U’s initially fell behind due to Jake Young’s opening goal, and their first-half performance at the JobServe Community Stadium was lackluster.

However, in the second half, they made a strong comeback, with goals from Cameron McGeehan, Samson Tovide, and Noah Chilvers securing the win. Interim boss Etherington was delighted with the outcome.

He commented, “Ultimately, it turned out to be a productive night. We had some discussions during halftime. It was clear that the first half did not meet our standards, and the players were aware of that. We made some adjustments to our possession structure, which seemed to help.”

Etherington went on to mention that although the second half lacked the required pressure on the ball, he was pleased with the overall performance, despite some halftime boos. He emphasized that his primary satisfaction was for the players, and he wasn’t concerned about his own standing.

The team swiftly equalized in the second half when McGeehan scored from close range, thanks to a well-placed cross by Jayden Fevrier. Etherington explained that Fevrier was more effective on the right side, as he was primarily an attacker rather than a wing-back.

Colchester took the lead for the first time in the 64th minute when Tovide delivered a precise first-time strike following Will Greenidge’s cross. Etherington praised the assist and Tovide’s performance, highlighting the hard work he put in against defenders.

The final goal was secured by Chilvers in stoppage time, and Etherington commended Zach Mitchell for making two crucial challenges in their penalty area to prevent Swindon from equalizing. Despite being only 18 years old, Mitchell’s performance exceeded expectations.

Colchester is set to play at home against Sutton United in their upcoming match on Saturday.
