A man in Florida is accused of murdering the mother of his children by stabbing her and then setting their apartment on fire with their three young kids inside.
The incident, as reported by the Daytona Beach Police Department, resulted in the death of 30-year-old Den’Jah Moore and her 10-month-old son. Firefighters discovered their bodies in the burning apartment, while the other two children, aged 4 and 5, survived but are in critical condition.
The police chief, Jakari Young, revealed that the father, Charles Ivey, has been arrested and charged with premeditated first-degree murder, attempted felony murder, and arson. Young expressed strong condemnation for Ivey’s actions, stating that he deserves a “special place in the gates of hell” for what he did to the mother and children. Ivey is currently held without bail at the Volusia County Jail.
According to Young, Moore suffered multiple stab wounds, and the baby boy died due to the fire. The motive for the stabbing and arson remains unclear, and the case is still under investigation. Although Ivey did not confess, investigators obtained traffic camera footage showing him leaving the scene around the time of the fire, and he was found in possession of Moore’s phone.
Describing it as the “most horrendous and horrific crime” in his career, Chief Young commended first responders for saving the surviving children. A GoFundMe has been set up by the family to cover medical expenses for the surviving children and funeral costs for their deceased mother and brother. The GoFundMe page emphasizes the need for both prayers and financial assistance during this challenging time.
