Reports suggest that the team is likely to non-tender Nick Senzel and trade Jonathan India, both initially expected to play key roles in the team’s lineup.
Bob Nightengale, reporting for USA Today, states that the Reds are planning to take decisive actions by parting ways with Senzel and India during the upcoming offseason. Simultaneously, there are strong indications that the Reds are actively seeking a seasoned starting pitcher, with Michael Wacha or Wade Miley being potential targets.
Focusing on India, who secured the Rookie of the Year award in 2021, recent trade interest has been noted, adding to the speculation of a potential move.
The rationale behind such a decision is grounded in the Reds’ youthful roster, abundant with position player depth featuring talents like Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, and Matt McLain.

In Senzel’s case, the former top prospect has grappled with health issues throughout his career, never playing more than 110 games in any of his five seasons in the major leagues. Despite his struggles, Senzel, at 28 years old, remains a viable asset with a lifetime batting average of .239 and a .302 on-base percentage.
