Catch up on the latest news and noteworthy events as of Saturday, November 11, 2023.
The Cleveland Guardians proudly present their new manager, Stephen Vogt! If you didn’t catch the press conference (possibly due to last-minute notifications from the team’s official channels, just 9 minutes before it began), you can view the entire event:
Chris Antonetti’s opening statements at the press conference, outlining their managerial criteria, were noteworthy. Vogt, rumored to be charming and magnetic, lived up to expectations. Kudos to him for openly expressing emotions in public, breaking stereotypes about men concealing their feelings. Well done, Stephen!
Vogt’s Chris Farley reference right from the start won hearts, making him a favorite for many. Check out Terry Pluto’s and Zack Meisel’s summaries, and listen to Meisel and Zuppe analyze the press conference

The Guardians announced the addition of Craig Albernaz, formerly the Giants’ bullpen and catching coach, as the “major league field coordinator,” a role seemingly overseeing the team’s quality control.
Guardians coaching staff for 2024:
DeMarlo Hale is mulling over whether to return as bench coach. Mike Sarbaugh, Rigo Beltran and Mike Barnett are out. Everyone else is back.
So, they need a 3B/infield coach, a bullpen coach, a replay coordinator and maybe a bench coach.

While most of Cleveland’s coaching staff is returning, notable changes include departures of Mike Sarbaugh (third base and infield), Mike Barnett (replay), and Rigo Beltran (bullpen).

Baseball savant has confirmed my priors.
No team in baseball has been close to as bad at holding runners as the Cleveland Guardians over the last two years.
