The top priority for the new Bradford City manager should be addressing a crucial matter involving Swindon Town.
Bradford City has been without a manager for nearly a month, following the dismissal of Mark Hughes due to a series of poor results that left the club in a lower League Two position. While Kevin McDonald has temporarily managed the team, the recent losses have created uncertainty about the new manager’s appointment.
The search for a new manager has faced challenges, with Karl Robinson reportedly declining the opportunity. There has been little discussion about potential candidates for the position.
Dean Holden, who has been out of work since his departure from Charlton Athletic at the start of the season, is one name that has surfaced as a potential candidate. However, other clubs, including Gillingham and Bristol Rovers, are also interested in him.
McDonald has stepped down from his temporary role to focus on his own football, leading to speculations about the imminent appointment of a new manager. The new manager will face a significant task, and to make things easier, they should consider recalling Jake Young from Swindon Town.
Bradford signed Young from Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2022, but he struggled to adapt during the 2022/23 season. As a result, he was loaned to Barrow AFC in January. However, his time there was unproductive, as he failed to score a goal in 17 appearances, potentially hindering his chances of playing for Bradford.
Young then joined Swindon Town on a season-long loan in the summer, and he has excelled, scoring 10 goals in 14 league matches. He currently ranks as the third-highest scorer in the league this season and has played a crucial role in Swindon’s campaign.
His impressive statistics include an average of 2.2 shots per game, 0.6 dribbles, and 0.7 fouls suffered, with a pass success rate of 66%. He has also provided 0.8 key passes and four assists.
This represents the best form of Young’s career, and it seems illogical for Bradford to have a player performing at such a high level, especially when they are struggling to score goals themselves.
The Bantams have been lacking firepower, with Andy Cook as their top scorer with just six goals, followed by Alex Pattison with three. The team has only managed to score 17 league goals in total, while Young alone has nearly matched that tally.
Therefore, the new Bradford City manager should seriously consider recalling Jake Young from his loan at Swindon Town in January. Doing so could significantly boost the team’s chances of success in the latter part of the season and potentially eliminate the need to acquire a new attacker.
