‘Marvin Johnson’s Registration Saga’ – Sheffield Wednesday’s Bid to Include Him in Their Squad…

Sheffield Wednesday has expressed their intention to include Marvin Johnson in their plans for the remainder of the season and has taken steps to register him with the EFL, according to information from The Star.

Marvin Johnson, a left winger, was not initially part of the club’s 25-man EFL squad registration list and had not made any appearances under the former manager, Xisco. However, with a single vacant spot on the registration list and the appointment of new manager Danny Röhl, a new opportunity has arisen for the 32-year-old player. This week, he played for 45 minutes in Sheffield Wednesday’s under-21s’ win against Coventry City.

The Star has learned that Sheffield Wednesday has made efforts this week to complete Johnson’s registration and was optimistic about its success. Whether they managed to complete the registration in time for him to be eligible for the South Yorkshire derby against Rotherham United on Sunday has not been confirmed.

Currently, Sheffield Wednesday is under an EFL-imposed registration embargo due to their failure to meet an HMRC payment deadline. However, it is possible that Johnson’s registration was processed before this embargo went into effect.

On the surface, some EFL regulations indicate that clubs under an embargo may not be allowed to make new registration attempts for “any players.” Nevertheless, as reported by The Star, it seems that Johnson may have a chance of being registered because he is already associated with Sheffield Wednesday. Any effort to register a player in these circumstances is subject to approval by the EFL.

If Johnson is successfully added to the registration list, it will complete Sheffield Wednesday’s 25-man squad, meaning that players like Momo Diaby and Ciaran Brennan will not be eligible for first-team registration until January, except for exceptional circumstances. Under-18 players, such as Djeidi Gassama, Bailey Cadamarteri, and Joey Phuthi, are not counted in the 25-man list and are free to participate in first-team matches.

If Sheffield Wednesday manages to register Johnson in time, there is a possibility that he could be included in the matchday squad for Sunday’s game at Hillsborough.
