Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson had high praise for his teammate Ronald Acuña Jr., whose electric start to the season has once again captured the attention of the baseball world. In a candid moment with reporters, Olson didn’t mince words when describing Acuña’s performance, calling it something he believes “you’re just born with.”
“Watching Ronald do what he does every night, it’s like he was built for this game,” Olson said. “You don’t teach that kind of speed, power, and instinct. He’s just got it.”
Acuña has come out of the gates scorching hot, lighting up box scores with his signature blend of power and flair. Whether he’s blasting towering home runs or wreaking havoc on the base paths, the reigning NL MVP is once again proving why he’s one of the most electrifying players in Major League Baseball.
Olson, who himself is a star slugger and cornerstone of the Braves’ lineup, emphasized how lucky the team is to have a player like Acuña leading off and setting the tone. “He’s the spark. When he gets going, it’s contagious. You can feel the energy shift,” Olson added.
This isn’t the first time Acuña has dazzled early in the season, but each year brings a new level of maturity and refinement to his game. His early numbers are staggering, and if he continues this pace, he could be on track for another historic campaign.
Beyond the stats, Olson’s comments reflect a growing admiration within the clubhouse for Acuña’s unique gifts. While hard work and preparation are undeniable parts of the equation, there’s also a shared recognition that Acuña possesses something that can’t be taught—a rare, innate talent that sets him apart even among the game’s elite.
As the Braves aim for another deep postseason run, having a generational talent like Acuña firing on all cylinders could be the difference-maker. And if you ask Matt Olson, it’s simply what Ronald was born to do.
