An MLB insider has outlined a potential major trade and reunion scenario involving a beloved Philadelphia Phillies player. The Phillies recently made waves by securing a seven-year, $72 million deal with Aaron Nola, signaling the beginning of what is anticipated to be a dynamic offseason.
Despite this move, it seems the Phillies are not done reshaping their roster for the upcoming 2024 MLB season, aiming to address the disappointments of the past two seasons that fell just short of a World Series championship. Mark Feinsand, an MLB insider, has proposed an intriguing scenario for the Phillies this winter.
Feinsand suggests that Johan Rojas and Cristian Pache are more likely trade candidates, with Rojas potentially strengthening another area of the roster due to his impressive performances in limited playing time.
However, he raises the possibility of trading Nick Castellanos, who has three years and $60 million left on his contract.
This move would free up right field for Bryce Harper, enabling the Phillies to re-sign Rhys Hoskins and bolster their lineup. Given the offseason’s weak market for impact bats, Castellanos could attract significant interest if made available by the Phillies.
However, there are three notable issues with this proposed scenario. First, Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has publicly declared that Castellanos is not on the trading block. Second, Dombrowski has stated that Harper is slated to be the full-time first baseman for Philadelphia.
Third, the possibility of a reunion with Hoskins has been publicly deemed unlikely by Dombrowski. Upon closer inspection, Feinsand’s scenario appears to lack substance, as it conflicts with the public statements made by the Phillies’ front office, leaving it seemingly speculative and typical of the hot air often associated with this time of year.
