McKenna might make a bold move by sidelining Broadhead and opting for the robust £5,000-per-week Ipswich standout against West Brom.
The Tractor Boys manager, McKenna, is contemplating the daring decision to bench Broadhead for the upcoming match at West Brom. Ipswich Town is closely monitoring the 3 pm Saturday kick-offs before their Hawthorns game, hoping for a Leicester City stumble against Watford. This could potentially allow Ipswich to surpass Leicester and claim the top spot in the Championship with a victory.
However, West Bromwich Albion, under Carlos Corberan, is not likely to make it easy for McKenna’s team to secure a straightforward three points, as they have their own promotion aspirations and playoffs within reach.
McKenna might spring a surprise with his lineup in the West Midlands, possibly catching the home team off-guard. While it’s expected that Broadhead will start, there is a chance he could be dropped following a subpar performance against Swansea City.
Despite Broadhead’s overall stellar performance for Ipswich this season, including six goals and one assist, his recent below-par display against Swansea, where he struggled and was substituted off around the hour mark, has raised questions about his form. His accuracy on the ball also fell below his usual standards, completing only 60% of his passes.
Given Broadhead’s recent off-day and the toll of international fixtures, McKenna might consider resting the 25-year-old for the game at the Hawthorns.
In his place, McKenna could turn to Wes Burns, who, despite being more accustomed to the right wing, has expressed feeling “strong” after overcoming a shoulder problem. Burns, a key contributor to Ipswich’s promotion last season, has yet to hit his stride in the current campaign, with one goal and one assist from 12 games played.
Burns, who impressed off the bench in the previous match against Swansea, is eager to make a difference if given the opportunity. While there’s a case for both Burns and Broadhead starting together, McKenna might opt to go with Burns for this crucial match against West Brom.
