The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly clarified their position on star outfielder Nick Castellanos amid speculation of a potential trade during the offseason.
According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Phillies have stated that they have no intention of trading Castellanos, considering him a crucial part of the team and valuing his contributions.
While the reason for the initial trade speculation remains unclear, one possible factor could have been financial, as Castellanos has three years left on his $60 million deal.

Trading him might have provided the Phillies with additional payroll flexibility. However, the report confirms that the Phillies have decided to retain Castellanos.
Castellanos had an impressive season, re-establishing himself as a high-quality hitter with a .272 average, 29 home runs, and 106 RBIs. His standout performance in the NLDS, where he hit four home runs, contributed to the Phillies’ playoff run to the NLCS.
Having played 11 years in the MLB with the Tigers, Reds, Cubs, and Phillies, Castellanos boasts a .276 lifetime batting average, 210 career home runs, and two All-Star appearances.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the Phillies are expected to be strong, although uncertainties surround ace right-hander Aaron Nola, who is a free agent.
Despite potential financial considerations, the Phillies have affirmed their commitment to retaining Castellanos, suggesting that if they aim to address financial concerns, they will need to explore alternative avenues.
