Salford Red Devils have officially announced the acquisition of Ethan Ryan, an Ireland international rugby player without a contract, who has signed a three-year deal with the team in Greater Manchester.
Ethan Ryan, a versatile player capable of performing as a full-back, winger, or in the centers, joins Salford after spending four years with Hull KR, another Super League club. During his time with Hull KR, he scored 22 tries in 42 appearances, including a crucial try in the Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan Warriors, which led to golden point extra time.
Ryan also featured in the final against Leigh Leopards at Wembley but had limited playing time under Willie Peters. His move away from Hull KR had been in the works throughout the year, and it has now been confirmed, making him the Red Devils’ second signing of the offseason, following Nene Macdonald from Papua New Guinea.
This transfer reunites Ryan with Kurt Haggerty, who is now an assistant coach at Salford. The two previously played together at Bradford Bulls in 2016, where Ryan began his senior career and Haggerty concluded his playing career.
Ethan Ryan expressed his excitement about joining Salford, stating, “I can’t wait to get started with the Red Devils. The deal has been in the works for a while now, and it’s almost time to begin with my new team. I’m really looking forward to playing in a team that plays like Salford does. As an outsider looking in, you admire the style of rugby the club plays, and I’m glad I can now be a part of it. Hopefully, I’ll contribute my skills, and I will always give my all on the field. I can’t wait to put on that shirt and show the fans what I can do.”
Kurt Haggerty played a significant role in persuading Ryan to join Salford, as there had been reported interest from several other clubs during his time with Hull KR. Salford’s head coach, Paul Rowley, expressed his excitement about the addition of Ryan, emphasizing his versatility and character traits that make him a valuable asset to the team. Rowley believes that Ryan’s presence will raise the team’s standards and competitiveness.
In summary, Salford Red Devils have successfully secured the services of Ethan Ryan, a talented and versatile rugby player, for a three-year contract. Ryan’s arrival is anticipated to boost the team’s performance and competition as they aim to build on their previous season’s successes.
