Michkov, 18, was selected by the Flyers as the 7th pick in the June draft due to concerns about his potential departure from Russia.
However, he has proven his worth with a remarkable performance in the KHL, drawing comparisons to Alex Ovechkin as a goal-scoring sensation.
Initially, the 2023 draft was projected to feature Connor Bedard and Michkov as the top two players, and now this prediction seems justified. Michkov has made a significant impact, amassing 14 points, including seven goals, in 14 KHL games this season.
He has also earned a spot on the league’s All-Star team, boasting the highest points-per-game average among under-20 KHL players since 2008-09 while playing for Sochi.
In addition, goaltender Alexei Kolosov, a 2021 draft pick for the Flyers, has been outstanding in his 13 games with Minsk Dynamo, recording a 2.07 GAA and .918 save percentage.
Meanwhile, Ivan Fedotov, another Flyers prospect, is performing well in the KHL with a 2.17 GAA and .909 save percentage, despite being expected to play in North America.

Cutter Gauthier, a 19-year-old left winger/center, is also making waves, having scored three goals and taken 26 shots in Boston College’s first four games.
With his strong performance, he is on track to become a regular player for the Philadelphia Flyers in the near future. Last season, he scored 16 goals and tallied 37 points in 32 games at Boston College.
In other news, the Flyers, currently leading the Metropolitan Division with a record of 3-1-1, are set to face the undefeated Vegas team.
They have been on a winning streak, securing a 3-0-1 record in their last three games, which included strong Western Conference opponents like Vancouver, Edmonton, and Dallas. Carter Hart, the Flyers’ goaltender, has been in great form with a 3-1 record, a 2.01 GAA, and a .929 save percentage.
