Lucas Raymond of the Detroit Red Wings remains modest about his recent viral sensation status.
In a recent game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, his hit on Michael Eyssimont sent the latter tumbling head over heels into the Red Wings’ bench, instantly becoming a social media sensation.
Raymond, the architect of the hit, expressed a hint of sympathy for Eyssimont’s tough predicament, but he didn’t dwell on it too much.
“Raymond acknowledged that the hit was well-executed, but it was Eyssimont who bore the brunt of it while Raymond received praise from all corners, even within the hockey community. He confirmed that he’s received comments and jokes about the hit, primarily from friends and teammates.
“Lucas Raymond had notably put on 15 pounds of muscle during the summer, a transformation that surprised many. His physical play in the game was unexpected, even to him, as he enjoys the newfound recognition. However, he maintains a grounded perspective and isn’t getting carried away with the attention.
“He acknowledges that such incidents are part of the game and plans to move on from it. And, like many others, he has the video saved on his smartphone, though he believes it’s easy to find online.
