Jonjo Shelvey, the Nottingham Forest midfielder, recently expressed his astonishment at playing against Newcastle United only months after departing from the club. Shelvey had joined Forest in January after a seven-year tenure at Newcastle. Unfortunately, his stint at the City Ground did not go as planned, and he made just eight appearances for the club before being sidelined.

One of those appearances was against his former team, Newcastle, where he played for 94 minutes in a match that ended in a 2-1 defeat for Forest. While Emmanuel Dennis scored the opening goal for Forest, late goals from Alexander Isak secured a dramatic victory for Newcastle.

Shelvey shared his thoughts on facing his former club, saying, “It was a bit surreal. During the warm-up, I looked across the pitch, and I knew it like the back of my hand because I had been there so many times. It felt a bit strange, but it was a nice experience to compete against my friends and the fans.”

Despite the defeat, Shelvey acknowledged that Newcastle had a remarkable season the previous year. He added, “I wasn’t thrilled with the result, but it was a unique experience, and I doubt it will happen again.”
