In the ongoing season, every Sheffield Wednesday player has been assigned an average rating, and many of them are facing difficulties.
Yorkshire Live has analyzed the statistics and computed an average rating for the entire squad based on the first 11 league matches of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday is currently in search of not only their first victory of the season but also a new manager. Xisco Munoz departed from his position last week, but his successor has not been officially confirmed yet. The prevailing expectation is that German coach Danny Röhl will assume the role, but the deal has not been finalized.
Since there are no matches until later this month when they face Watford, we decided to take advantage of this break to evaluate the average ratings of the squad thus far in the season.
For our calculations, we considered match ratings from all 11 league games, specifically focusing on ratings given to players who started the matches. Ratings for substitutes were excluded from our analysis because they can distort the overall assessment, particularly when some substitutions occur very late in the games.
Given Sheffield Wednesday’s winless start to the season, it is not surprising that the ratings are not as high as one might hope for. There is also an interesting observation in the fact that the top two average ratings, belonging to Reece James and Momo Diaby, are awarded to players who have only started one league game each.
Nevertheless, this data paints a clear picture of a team that is underperforming in the initial fifth of the season, with most players hovering around an average rating of about 5. Some players are in urgent need of improvement, notably Pol Valentin and Jeff Hendrick, who have struggled and received ratings in the lower 3s.
The upcoming match at Vicarage Road will mark the beginning of the next set of games, and hopefully, the team will have a new manager in place by then. This presents an opportunity for the team to kickstart their season and potentially raise these average ratings.
Here are the average ratings for Sheffield Wednesday players in league games only, with the condition that they must have started at least once:
