Disaster in Scottish football as Celtic and Rangers are facing embarrassment..

Celtic and Rangers are facing embarrassment in European competitions, and there is no room for amusement amid the disaster in Scottish football, according to Chris Sutton, the former Parkhead striker.

Sutton believes that both Glasgow teams have suffered humiliation across the continent. While Rangers fans took pleasure in Celtic’s misfortune when Lazio scored a late goal in their match, the roles were reversed when Rangers lost to the third-ranked team in Limassol, leaving Celtic supporters equally disappointed.

This week has been far from humorous for Scottish football, despite the acknowledgment of the challenges European competitions pose.

Even though Celtic and Rangers operate with significantly fewer resources compared to clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, who also faced defeats this week, Sutton maintains that this is not an excuse for their poor performances. He personally experienced the frustration while watching the game in the stands, deeming it a sickening experience.

Sutton describes the feeling among fans as “typical Celtic in Europe,” highlighting the team’s tendency to seek the perfect goal rather than settling for an ugly but effective one. He emphasizes the need for variation in their approach, given their players’ suitability for a possession-based style. He also mentions the lack of physicality in both attack and defense and criticizes the team’s inability to capitalize on set pieces.

Regarding the Champions League group, Sutton believes it was an opportunity to compete for a spot in the knockout stages, but after two defeats, it appears to be a challenging task to secure third place and a spot in the Europa League after Christmas. Sutton also expresses concerns about Rangers, pointing out their recent struggles and the need for progress. He questions whether Frank Lampard, among other names, is the right choice as manager, considering the immense pressure at Rangers.

Aberdeen doesn’t escape Sutton’s criticism, as he believes they should have performed better in their draw against a Finnish team. He concludes by warning that Scottish football needs to improve to avoid losing its standing in European competitions and becoming a laughing stock.
