Caretaker Kevin McDonald expressed his surprise at being asked to lead Bradford City against Swindon Town this Saturday.
He clarified that he has no intentions of prematurely ending his playing career to pursue full-time management.
McDonald, a former midfielder for Sheffield United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Fulham, was initially signed to bring experience to Bradford City’s midfield but is now stepping into the role of caretaker manager.
McDonald was taken aback by the unexpected call but is willing to assist the team and the club in any way he can.
He acknowledges that certain aspects of the situation gave him pause for thought but views it as an honor and a mark of respect to be entrusted with this responsibility.
Although Bradford City has begun searching for a permanent successor to Mark Hughes, McDonald is not aware of any imminent appointment.
He aspires to become a manager eventually but remains committed to his playing career and aims to make the most of it.
In the immediate term, McDonald’s priority is to guide the team back to winning form after the recent struggles that led to Hughes’s dismissal.
He emphasizes the importance of professionalism, focusing on their upcoming match against Swindon, and devising strategies to overcome their opponents.
