The penalty was awarded to the home team during the first half, with Cedric Kipre being judged to have fouled Koji Miyoshi, despite minimal protests from Kipre and his teammates.
This decision significantly impacted the first-half dynamics, with John Swift’s opening goal being nullified by Juninho Bacuna, followed by Dion Sanderson putting the hosts ahead.
Despite his affiliation with Birmingham City, Morrison disagreed with the penalty decision and expressed his opinion during Sky Sports’ EFL coverage.
He stated that even considering his former ties with Birmingham City, he didn’t believe it was a penalty. Morrison pointed out that Kipre and the players on the field appeared surprised by the decision, and even Kyle Bartley commended it as good defending.
He argued that Kipre had indeed touched the ball first, and while there may have been some contact with Miyoshi afterward, it should not have been a penalty.
Morrison also mentioned that he had consulted with former Premier League referee Mike Dean about the decision. According to Morrison, Dean agreed with him and did not believe it was a penalty, further reinforcing his stance on the controversial call.
